The Audi Q4 e-tron is the brand's second all-electric luxury SUV. It is a smaller version of the similarly named Audi Q8 e-tron. The Q4 e-tron is about a foot shorter than the Q8 e-tron, though its passenger and cargo space is only slightly smaller. This all-wheel-drive compact crossover competes with the Genesis GV60, Tesla Model Y, and the Volvo XC40 Recharge. A sleeker Q4 e-tron Sportback version is reviewed separately.
The Audi Q4 e-tron debuted in 2022 and featured a dual electric motor setup. It has an EPA-estimated range of 241 miles on a single charge, but it is capable of going farther, according to Edmunds' testing. Note that in subsequent years, the range figure slightly decreases to 236 miles, but goes up to 265 miles on the single-motor variant introduced for 2023. Range figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new and assume a full battery charge. Range will vary based on things like battery age, vehicle condition and history, driving and charging habits, accessory use, and driving conditions. Battery capacity may decrease with time and use. See fueleconomy.gov for more info.
Overall, the Audi Q4 e-tron is worth considering if you're looking to make the jump to an electric vehicle. In many ways, it looks and drives like a conventional gasoline-powered SUV but is much smoother and quieter.
Silent cabin: The Q4 e-tron's interior is exceptionally quiet, thanks to its dual-pane front side windows. You might notice slight wind buffeting near the side mirrors and some occasional road noise when riding on broken pavement, but they're not enough to be an issue. There are no noticeable squeaks and rattles, which speaks to the build quality. When you step hard on the accelerator, the most you're likely to hear is a slight electric whine. On the right surface, the Q4 e-tron can feel nearly silent.
Excellent legroom: There's plenty of headroom and legroom up front, with seats wide enough to make the cabin feel airy. There is plenty of legroom and ample headroom for rear passengers. The rear floor is completely flat, which improves legroom for the middle passenger. The accommodations can be tight for three adults, but they're about as good as you can get in a compact SUV.
Driver assists: A comprehensive suite of driver aids is included in the Premium Plus trim level and up. The aids are tuned well and did not produce any false alarms. The adaptive cruise control system can sense when you have a hand on the wheel, as opposed to requiring a tug on the wheel to prove you're still paying attention. The Q4 e-tron did lack a surround-view camera, which most of its competitors offer, but this may not be a deal breaker for everyone.
Cargo capacity: The Q4 e-tron has adequate storage space, but it is not at the top of its class. There's 24.8 cubic feet of space behind the rear seat, which is comparable to the Genesis GV60, but falls short of the Tesla Model Y, with its 30.2 cubic feet. The latter number doesn't include the Tesla's 4.1-cubic-foot front trunk, which is something the Audi lacks. Still, the rear seatbacks do fold flat and can divide the rear seat into three sections.
