The Audi Q4 e-tron is a compact luxury electric SUV that is the entry point for the brand's electric vehicles. The Q4 e-tron is about a foot shorter than its larger sibling, the Q8 e-tron SUV. That said, you're not giving up that much room, as the Q4 e-tron's passenger and cargo space is only marginally smaller than the Q8 e-tron's. The Q4 e-tron has an EPA-estimated range of 236-265 miles, depending on the trim. A Q4 e-tron Sportback variant is reviewed separately. Range figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new and assume a full battery charge. Range will vary based on things like battery age, vehicle condition and history, driving and charging habits, accessory use, and driving conditions. Battery capacity may decrease with time and use. See fueleconomy.gov for more info.
The 2023 Audi Q4 e-tron marked the debut of the 40 e-tron version. It has an electric motor that powers the EV's rear wheels. You do sacrifice some power and acceleration compared to the dual-motor all-wheel-drive Q4 50 e-tron, but the less expensive Q4 40 e-tron offers 29 more miles of driving range. Audi estimates that the Q4 e-tron can recharge from 5% to 80% capacity in about 36 minutes at a 150-kW DC fast-charging station.
Quiet interior: The Q4 e-tron's interior is very quiet, thanks to its dual-pane windows up front. You might hear a touch of wind buffeting around the mirrors and some road noise when driving on broken pavement, but they're at relatively low levels. There are zero squeaks and rattles, which speaks to the build quality, and when you step hard on the accelerator the most you'll hear is a slight electric whine. On the right surface, the Q4 e-tron can feel nearly silent.
Spacious seats: There's plenty of headroom and legroom up front, and the seats are wide enough to make the cabin feel airy. Rear passengers should find tons of legroom and ample headroom. The rear floor is completely flat, which improves legroom for the middle passenger. The accommodations may be a little tight for three adults, but they're about as good as you can get in a compact SUV.
Dazzling technology: There are plenty of USB ports on board, an available wireless charger, plus wired or wireless smartphone connectivity with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. Audi's voice control system is capable of understanding more natural language, which makes it easier to adjust the climate control and make other common commands. It may not be as advanced as the newer voice recognition systems in other brands, but it will still impress you.
Storage space: The Q4 e-tron offers adequate cargo space, but it is not class-leading. There's 24.8 cubic feet of space available behind the rear seat, which is comparable to the Genesis GV60 but falls short of the Tesla Model Y and its 30.2 cubic feet. The latter figure doesn't include the Tesla's 4.1-cubic-foot front trunk, a feature the Q4 does not have. That said, the rear seatbacks do fold flat and have the flexibility to divide the rear bench into three sections.
