The Nautilus is Lincoln's compact SUV offering, slotting between the compact Corsair and the larger three-row Aviator. The Nautilus name debuted in 2019, but the vehicle itself dates back to the Lincoln MKX that was introduced in 2016. 2023 marks the end of the line of the Nautilus, at least for now. As a result, there were no significant changes for this model year.
We like its ample comfort, spacious interior, and potent turbocharged V6 engine, but those traits aren’t exclusive to the Nautilus. Rather, they’re what’s expected of any compact luxury SUV. As a result, the Nautilus never managed to distinguish itself from the class leaders, which include the BMW X3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC. We’d also suggest checking out entry-level luxury alternatives such as the Acura RDX, Genesis GV70, and Lexus RX.
Quiet and comfortable cabin: The Nautilus deserves praise for its overall comfort. The front seats are well cushioned for long-distance road trips and are available with cooling and massage functions to reduce fatigue. There are plenty of adjustments to ensure that drivers of almost any size will be happy. The suspension does a good job of smoothing over bumps, and the cabin remains quiet and calm on the highway.
Abundance of passenger space: The Lincoln Nautilus provides ample interior space for passengers. The front seats can easily accommodate larger occupants, and adults will also have adequate headroom and legroom in the rear seats. The seating position for passengers is somewhat tall, offering expansive outward views that make the cabin feel larger than it is.
Potent V6 engine option: If you're willing to pay a little extra, and don't mind the hit to fuel economy, the available 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine is the way to go with the Nautilus. With 335 horsepower (compared to the base engine’s 250 hp), this engine gets up to speed quicker with confidence and authority. Shifts from the eight-speed automatic transmission are also pleasantly quick and smooth. For those seeking more performance, the Sport drive mode noticeably livens things up.
Panoramic sunroof reduces rear headroom: As much as we like panoramic sunroofs for their ability to brighten up an interior and make it feel more spacious, sometimes they have some undesirable side effects. In the case of the Nautilus, the underlying mechanics required a lower headliner on the outboard edges, which can cause taller rear passengers to brush their heads up against it. If you routinely carry adults in the back, we suggest avoiding this feature.
