The 2018 Lincoln Navigator, redesigned for this model year, boasts incredible capability and versatility while also delivering a suitably luxurious experience. Its turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine is plenty powerful for accelerating onto highways or towing large loads. The Navigator, when properly equipped, can tow up to 8,300 pounds. Various factors may impact towing capacity, including weight of passengers, cargo, and options/accessories. Plus, there's ample room for gear and passengers in all three rows, in addition to a large trunk area.
The Navigator, like other large luxury SUVs, is not at its best while driving in tight parking lots or cramped city streets. But it is reasonably capable, if not nimble while making lane changes and navigating turns. It also may be overkill if you don't plan to use its towing capabilities. While you won't find a car-based crossover with as much space as the Navigator, vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz GLS offers seating for up to seven adults and is suitably luxurious.
Utility: Between its immense towing capacity and lots of interior room, the Navigator offers utility in spades. There’s more than 19 cubic feet of interior space behind the third row; if you fold down the second and third row, you gain access to more than 100 cubic feet of storage.
Interior: Getting in and out of the Navigator is relatively easy thanks to the retractable running boards along its sides—no small feat for a large SUV. The interior is roomy with enough head and leg room for all passengers in all three rows.
Technology: The Ford SYNC® 3 infotainment system is easy to use once you get the hang of it. The Navigator offers physical buttons and knobs to control the eight-inch touchscreen, making it easier to adjust settings while driving. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ are standard.
Driving: Despite its large size and available four-wheel drive, the Navigator isn't adept at going off-road. And when you're on pavement, it isn't exactly thrilling to drive. It can also be difficult to maneuver through tight spaces, which is typical for a vehicle of this size.
