Honda introduced a new fuel-sipping choice to the CR-V lineup for the 2020 model year. The CR-V Hybrid has more horsepower and better fuel economy than the non-hybrid variant, plus its EPA-estimated city/highway combined average is an impressive 38 mpg. Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Actual mileage will vary based on things like battery age, vehicle condition and history, driving and charging habits, accessory use, and driving conditions. Battery capacity may decrease with time and use. See fueleconomy.gov for more info. Unlike the standard CR-V that’s available in front- and all-wheel-drive format, the CR-V Hybrid comes with all-wheel drive standard.
Granted, the battery pack takes a small chunk out of available cargo space, though there’s more than enough room behind the second row for vacation luggage or shopping hauls. The infotainment system comes with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, but the seven-inch touchscreen can be slow to respond to commands. As for the cabin design and the materials used throughout it, both are first-rate and the interior feels built to last.
Cabin quality: The CR-V Hybrid doesn’t pretend it’s a luxury SUV by showering you with fancy wood or metal trim. But the cabin's overall quality and design certainly make it a comfortable place to spend your time. It feels like an interior built to withstand many, many miles of driving.
Performance: The acceleration provided by the CR-V Hybrid is more than fine for everyday driving. The balanced ride and precise steering make it a great pick for anyone who regularly encounters heavy traffic and snug parking spots.
Driver aids: Honda opted to make a number of driver aids standard on the CR-V Hybrid. Among others, these consist of adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, lane keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights.
Touchscreen commands: Maybe it’s because the rest of the Honda CR-V Hybrid is so good that the touchscreen’s flaws are more glaring. The biggest complaints are slow response times and too many menus for routine commands. It gets better with practice, though there’s room for improvement here.
