The 2022 Subaru Legacy sedan is a smart choice for small families or city dwellers. The standard all-wheel drive and multimedia offerings provide premium features at a reasonable price point, while the two top trims offer more customization options and a turbocharged engine. While it is a sedan, the interior space is more than sufficient and can accommodate luggage or gear for a weekend getaway or longer vacation.
Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel drive sends power to all four wheels at all times and is capable of sending more power to the left or right wheels, or the front or back wheels depending where it's needed. Whether you live in an all-weather climate or not, all-wheel drive is not only helpful on rainy days but also for anyone who occasionally goes off-pavement to get to the cabin, camping, or weekends out to the countryside. The benefit of all-wheel drive is more stability in any type of road condition.
LED headlamps that curve with the road ahead as you steer improve visibility for nighttime driving whether in the city or remote highway driving. Something as simple as driving down highways in the dark or in the rain can be made easier with turning headlights. In the Northern states where the winter months have fewer daylight hours, this is especially useful.
The Legacy comes equipped with a 2.5L four-cylinder for the base, Premium, Sport, and Limited trims, or a supercharged 2.4L four-cylinder for the Limited XT and Touring XT trims. The upgrade gets you from 182 to 260 horsepower; that means more power for a more thrilling drive. If you favor mpg over power, stick with the base engine but if you're looking for sporty thrill and an engine note that will have you rolling down the windows, go for the supercharged option.
The 2022 Subaru Legacy includes Subaru's EyeSight® driver-assist technology on all trims which include advanced adaptive cruise control, brake light recognition, and lane-keep assist. Advanced adaptive cruise control means that when cruise control is engaged, it will keep pace within traffic automatically slowing or increasing speed based on the vehicles in front of you. These advanced driver-assist features are important in any road conditions but especially in all-weather climates.
The base Legacy gets a seven-inch multimedia LCD touchscreen and moving up to the Premium trim means you will get the 11.6-inch touchscreen. All trims include Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration, SiriusXM®, satellite, HD radio, and dual USB input ports in the front. Bluetooth® audio streaming and hands-free phone calls are also standard on all trims.

2014–2019 Subaru Legacy (Sixth Generation)
Known for including all-wheel drive in every model from the base up, Subaru continued its path with the Legacy, tweaking it slightly from the previous generation. A 2.5L flat-four engine and a 3.6L flat-six were carried over and Subaru stuck with those engine options through the entire generation. A four-speaker audio system was standard throughout, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity were added as standard features in 2018.
2020-Present Subaru Legacy (Seventh Generation)
For 2020, the Subaru Legacy was redesigned and a new 260-hp 2.4L turbocharged engine option was added to the mix. Inside, an optional 11.6-inch tablet-style infotainment interface became available for the Premium trim and above. And Subaru completely renamed the trim levels from numbers to names; new variants for 2020 include Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, Limited XT, and Touring XT.
