Year comparison

2010–2015 Toyota Prius (Third Generation)

The first-generation Prius was launched in October 1997 as the world's first mass-produced hybrid car and remained unchanged until 2003, when Toyota introduced its second generation. Seven years later, the Japanese automaker unveiled the 2010 Prius' third generation with a 1.8L four-cylinder engine (versus the previous 1.5L). The hybrid—which was available in five trims and with three option packages—maintained its same triangular silhouette but with extra exterior refinements.

2016–Present Toyota Prius (Fourth Generation)

The Toyota Prius was redesigned in 2016 for its fourth generation and featured a revised hybrid system and a lithium-ion battery. A center-mounted instrument panel and an available forward-collision warning system with automatic braking were added in 2017, followed by front- or all-wheel drive, standard Apple CarPlay® capability, and standard automatic emergency braking in 2020. The 2021 model saw the addition of Android Auto capabilities with the choice of a seven- or 11.6-inch touchscreen. In addition, the 2022 Toyota Prius now offers a new Nightshade Special Edition for a bold appearance.
