Second generation BMW X2
The second-generation X2 makes up for the sins of the first generation, mostly with improved interior space. It was redesigned along with the X1, growing 7.6 inches longer while also getting wider.
Though the platform originates from a front-wheel-drive chassis, all X2s now come standard with all-wheel drive. Once again, a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder powers every X2, though it has more power in its xDrive28i base form, and the M35i variant also returns with more power than it offered before. The transmission is now a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic instead of an eight-speed automatic, and the 0-60 mph time is as low as 5.2 seconds. The M35i also has a sportier suspension tuned with adaptive dampers, as well as bigger brakes that measure 15 inches in diameter up front.
Inside, in addition to more space for passengers and cargo, the second-generation X2 has the ninth generation of BMW’s iDrive infotainment system with a larger 10.7-inch curved touchscreen. It’s joined by a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster, also in a larger curved display.
BMW outfits every X2 with a solid set of driver-assist features, but lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, and parking sensors cost extra.

First generation BMW X2
BMW expanded its entry-level crossover SUV lineup for 2018 with the release of the X2, a sportier coupe-like version of the X1. Both models flew in the face of BMW tradition by offering front-wheel drive instead of rear-wheel drive, but buyers could also get all-wheel drive.
BMW launched the X2 with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that provided effective power. An M35i variant arrived for 2019 with a more powerful version of the same engine, pushing output to over 300 horsepower. Both engines came with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
BMW offered three suspensions. An M Sport suspension lowered the ride height for sharper handling, and a Dynamic Handling package further lowered the ride height and added adaptive dampers for the best performance.
Interior technology included a standard 6.5-inch touchscreen or an 8.8-inch touchscreen that became standard for 2020. Some basic driver-assist tech was standard at first, but by 2019 BMW made forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and automatic high beams all standard.
