2024 Cadillac LYRIQ review

What We Like

• Interior: The Lyriq's interior makes a great first impression. The front seats are roomy, and the cabin materials are an appealing mix of wood, leather, and metal that is likely to be the design language for electric Cadillacs going forward. The view from the driver's seat is dominated by a curved 33-inch touchscreen, with the climate control switches accounting for the only physical buttons on the console. 

• Storage space: The Lyriq cargo space falls on the higher end of electric midsize SUVs. It has 28 cubic feet of room with the rear seats in place, which is more than the Genesis GV60 EV at 24 cubic feet, but less than the gas-powered Cadillac XT5 midsize SUV at 30 cubic feet. The cargo area appears to be a similar size to the Tesla Model Y, though this is a rough guess, as Tesla does not release comparable figures.  

• Impressive center screen: The infotainment screen is bright and clear, providing an attractive view of maps, vehicle functions, and menus. The Google Assistant is included and enables several voice commands that understand natural speech quite well. You can control the screen using either the center-mounted dial or by touch. There will be a learning curve involved as some menus and functions are buried deep inside the interface and may be difficult to locate.  

What Needs Improvement 

• Subpar handling: The steering can feel uncommunicative at times. While Cadillac may have tuned it this way to exude comfort, it can also make the Lyriq seem sluggish in response to your commands. The SUV also noticeably shifts its weight around too often. Cadillac says it has a low center of gravity due to the underfloor battery pack, but the Lyriq never quite feels confident in its stance and tends to sway from side to side when hustling around turns.
