Fourth generation Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Chevrolet redesigned the Silverado 1500 for 2019 with a larger bed, a bigger cab, a new engine, and a lighter weight. The Silverado 1500 lineup offers a truck for everyone, with numerous trim levels; rear- or four-wheel drive with low-range gearing; regular cab, double cab, and crew cab body styles; and 5-foot-8, 6-foot-6, and eight-foot bed lengths.
Powertrain choices are also plentiful, starting with a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder hooked to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Buyers also have the choice of 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8s, or a 3.0-liter turbo diesel inline-six. Transmission choices are eight- and 10-speed automatics. Towing capacity ranges from 9,500 pounds for the turbo-four engine to 13,300 pounds for the larger V8 and diesel when properly equipped.
A 4.3-liter V6 was also offered at the start of this generation, as was a six-speed automatic transmission. The Silverado lineup varies from the bare-bones WT (Work Truck) trim level to the high-luxe High Country to the off-road-performance-oriented ZR2, with numerous choices in between. Unique features include the Multi-Flex tailgate with six functions and the GM Super Cruise hands-free driver-assist system.

Third generation Chevrolet Silverado 1500
For 2014, Chevrolet redesigned the Silverado 1500 with more upright styling to play off the look of the even larger 2500 and 3500 trucks. The new Silverado also added interior technology, introduced new driver-assist features and got next-generation engines that were more efficient.
The Silverado once again offered a 4.3-liter V6 and 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8s, but these were new engines with direct injection, continuously variable valve timing, and cylinder deactivation, making them more fuel-efficient. All also now came with a six-speed automatic transmission, though an eight-speed automatic was introduced for select models in 2015. For 2016, GM introduced the eAssist package that improved horsepower, torque, and fuel economy with a mild hybrid system. Rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive with low-range gearing carried over.
Inside, the Silverado offered seven-inch and eight-inch touchscreens, and Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ were added for 2016.
New driver-assist technology introduced in 2014 included forward collision warning, front and rear parking sensors, and lane departure warning. Automatic high beams and lane keeping assistance arrived for 2016, while low-speed automatic emergency braking was added for 2017.
