The second year of the third generation of the Silverado gets a few more tweaks after 2014’s big redesign. As well as the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 getting a new eight-speed automatic transmission for the 6.2L V8 engine, there’s been a small name change: 2014’s 2WT (Work Truck) is now the LS. Aside from that, the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 continues to impress with its wide range of body styles and powerful engines.
The base engine of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is an impressive 4.3L V6 producing 285 hp. This is enough for a lot of people’s needs, but not for consistent heavy towing requirements. So, if you need more, look out for one of the V8 engines. The 5.3L V8 produces 355 hp, while the 6.2L V8 produces 420 hp. The top trim can tow up to an estimated 12,000 lbs when properly equipped.
Inside the cabin of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, the inside is as impressive as the pickup truck’s performance. Chevrolet has worked on the build and it shows. Not only does it look and feel well crafted inside, but there’s loads of storage, as well as fit-for-purpose tech like an infotainment screen and a USB port as standard. Seating is also comfortable and adjustable, and the cabin is nice and quiet inside, even when driving on the freeway.
Making sure you’ve done your research before shopping for a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will ensure you pick the configuration that’s right for you. Each configuration is available in either 2WD or 4WD, and regular cabs can be found with either a 6.5-ft bed or an 8.2-ft bed. Extended cabs come with the 6.5-ft bed and crew cabs are either 6.5-ft or 5.75-ft. The regular cabs are available with the WT, LS, and LT trims, the extended cabs in WT, LT, LS, and LTZ, and the crew cab comes in all of those plus the High Country and Z71 trims.
Not only is the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 exceptionally sturdy, but it comes with several desirable driver aids. These include rearview camera, forward collision warning, front and rear parking sensors, and lane departure warning. There’s also an alert seat, which vibrates to warn drivers of a potential hazard. This is both unobtrusive and useful.
Most people take the towing capacity into account when shopping for a pickup truck like the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. If that’s the case for you, you’ll be pleased to know that the 4.3L V6 can tow up to an estimated 7,600 lbs, the 5.3L V8 can tow an estimated 11,500 lbs, and the 6.2L V8 can tow an estimated 12,000 lbs — all when properly equipped.
