Fifth generation GMC Sierra 1500
GMC redesigned the Sierra 1500 for 2019 to bring the truck up to date with modern technology. In the current generation, buyers can choose from a wide variety of engines, including a 4.3-liter V6, an inline six-cylinder turbodiesel, and a pair of capable V8 engines.
Sierra 1500 cabins offer a center console large enough to hold a standard laptop computer. In recent years, GMC has offered a 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system as well as multiple exterior cameras and the ability to easily incorporate remote cameras in an attached trailer.
Two areas that show GMC’s innovation are the bed and tailgate. The available MultiPro™ tailgate offers a tailgate-within-the-tailgate that drops down to provide easier access or create a staircase into the bed. It also flips up to provide a backstop when carrying longer materials. GMC also offers an available CarbonPro™ bed, made entirely of carbon-fiber material.

Fourth generation GMC Sierra 1500
The fourth generation of the GMC Sierra 1500 was designed to bring it into the modern era with more fuel-efficient engines and modern conveniences. A new 4.3-liter V6 engine and a pair of more efficient V8 options led the feature list, but GMC also improved the interior and adapted passenger-car technology to the truck.
The fourth-generation Sierra 1500 offered a regular two-door, single-row cab, an extended cab with a small rear seat, or a full four-door crew cab. Bed lengths ranged from eight feet with the standard cab to a 5.75-foot short bed with the crew cab. Most Sierras in this era offered a 6.5-foot bed.
Inside, the fourth-generation Sierra reflected the era in terms of audio and infotainment system features and driver-assistance technology. Available tech included a rearview camera, front and rear parking assist, forward collision warning, and lane-keeping assistance.
