The Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid is larger than most compact crossover SUVs, with more interior space. With seating for five and standard all-wheel drive, the Hybrid offers the same utility as the gas-powered Santa Fe but gets better EPA-estimated fuel economy, with up to 34 mpg combined in the Blue trim. Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Actual mileage will vary based on things like battery age, vehicle condition and history, driving and charging habits, accessory use, and driving conditions. Battery capacity may decrease with time and use. See fueleconomy.gov for more info.
For the 2023 model year, the Santa Fe Hybrid received a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment center as standard equipment on all trims, plus new driver-assistance features in the SEL Premium trim. Leather seats were replaced with synthetic leather on the SEL Premium trim.
The Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid competes with some of the industry’s top-selling hybrid SUVs, including the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, Kia Sportage Hybrid, Honda CR-V Hybrid, and Ford Escape ST-Line hybrids. Many are less expensive and all offer better fuel economy estimates than the Santa Fe.
The Santa Fe Hybrid comes in three trim levels: Blue, SEL Premium, and Limited. All trims include a 1.6-liter gasoline engine, an electric hybrid motor, a six-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive.
Interior space: Because the Santa Fe is a little bigger than most compact SUVs, it offers more interior space than competitors such as the Honda CR-V Hybrid or Ford Escape Hybrid. The Santa Fe Hybrid is capable of carrying 72.1 cubic feet of cargo with the rear seats down and offers a generous 36.4 cubic feet behind the second row. If your family carries a lot of gear, this SUV can take the place of a three-row midsize you don’t really need.
Standard all-wheel drive: Many SUVs are more expensive when equipped with all-wheel drive. If you live in any area that gets substantial winter weather, AWD is probably a nonnegotiable feature, so that makes every Santa Fe Hybrid at any trim level a reasonable choice.
Good crash test scores: The Santa Fe Hybrid earned a five-star overall crash test rating from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, and the chassis has a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The SUV’s front crash prevention system for both vehicles and pedestrians is rated “Superior.” Standard features include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, and forward collision mitigation. Certain vehicles may have unrepaired safety recalls. Click here to look up a specific vehicle.
Fuel economy: Hybrid competitors such as the Toyota Venza, Honda CR-V Hybrid, Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, Ford Escape Hybrid, and Kia Sportage Hybrid all have EPA-estimated combined fuel economy between 39 and 41 mpg. Compared to the 32-34 mpg of the Santa Fe Hybrid, that’s significant.
