The Infiniti QX80 has V8 power and tons of space

The 2022 Infiniti QX80 is a large luxury SUV that competes against the likes of the BMW X7, Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, and Mercedes-Benz GLS. Styled to look big and brooding, the QX80 enters the 2022 model year with a new 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay®, and wireless device charging. Inside, there’s seating for up to seven, and the third row is convenient in that it accommodates adults, not just kids.

Getting the QX80 down the road is a V8 engine paired to a seven-speed automatic transmission and choice of rear- or four-wheel drive. Performance is strong and that's reflected in the QX80’s 8,500 pounds of towing capacity. Things are less rosy when talk turns to efficiency—this SUV has a voracious appetite for fuel. Despite its fancier packaging, it’s also clear the QX80 is mechanically identical to the significantly less expensive Nissan Armada.

5 reasons to buy the 2022 Infiniti QX80

What We Like

V8 power and towing: Acceleration isn’t overwhelming, but the 400-hp V8 gets the QX80 down the road with a minimum of fuss. It also happens to sound great during hard acceleration, and towing capacity ranks high among large luxury SUVs.

Interior room and features: Life is pretty good in the cabin of the QX80, especially in the first and second rows. Thankfully most adults should be OK in the third row, at least for crosstown journeys. Upper trims include heated and ventilated front seats, heated second row, and quilted leather upholstery.

Highly capable brakes: With this much SUV at your disposal, the last thing you want is drama-filled braking. Luckily, the stoppers in the QX80 are more than up to the task.

What Needs Improvement

Major update is due: The QX80 does many things well, but rival large SUVs do most things better. This Infiniti is feeling increasingly behind the times in terms of tech, driver-assist features, and cabin layout.
