The Infiniti QX80 has a strong V8, impressive towing, and a roomy cabin

The 2023 Infiniti QX80 is a large luxury SUV with three rows of seating and a powerful V8 engine under its prodigious hood. While it’s undeniably roomy, and the sheer scale of the QX80 means it cuts a wide swath through traffic, it’s also overdue for a complete update. On sale in more or less the same form since 2011, the 2023 QX80 has only minimal changes, such as the addition of Amazon Alexa.

Positives include a max towing capacity of 8,500 pounds, surprisingly strong brakes that bring this hulking SUV to calm and controlled stops, and an exciting exhaust note from the 400-horsepower V8. Less charming is the QX80’s thirst for fuel, its increasingly outdated in-cabin tech, and vague steering. For the money, there are a number of more modern options in the full-size SUV segment.

5 reasons to buy the 2023 Infiniti QX80

What We Like

Cabin room: It’s probably not a giant surprise that the QX80 excels at providing tons of headroom and legroom, even in the third row. The rear seats are usable by adults, which isn’t always the case with large luxury SUVs.

V8 acceleration and towing: When it comes to the power and sound of the 400-hp V8, the QX80 hasn’t aged one bit. Acceleration is swift and the exhaust has a nice growl to it when you press the gas pedal.

Strong brakes: Considering the QX80 weighs about 6,000 pounds, it’s nice to know its brakes are more than up to the task. They inspire lots of confidence in all types of driving situations.

What Needs Improvement

Overdue for an update: The harsh truth is that the QX80 is far behind the times when pitted against almost every direct rival, such as the Cadillac Escalade or Mercedes-Benz GLS. It lacks the polish and refinement that’s typical in large luxury SUVs with three rows of seating.
