The 2021 Jaguar E-Pace is a five-passenger small luxury SUV that competes with rivals like the BMW X1, Volvo XC40, Cadillac XT4, Acura RDX, and Lexus UX. What sets the E-Pace apart is its energetic acceleration, sharp handling, and an exterior that bears more than a passing resemblance to Jaguar’s sleek F-Type coupe and convertible. First introduced for the 2018 model year, the 2021 E-Pace receives a midcycle update that brings with it redesigned headlights and front grille, improved interior trim pieces, a larger 11.4-inch touchscreen, and an optional digital rearview mirror.
Jaguar has a streamlined E-Pace trims lineup: P250, P250 SE, and P300 Sport. The first two come with a 246-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, a nine-speed automatic, and all-wheel drive. The P300 Sport features a 296-hp version of this same powertrain. Acceleration is ample with either choice, and the steering responses are quick and linear. One note of caution: Larger wheels fitted to the P300 Sport make the ride much firmer and this could deter some SUV shoppers.
Steering and acceleration: The E-Pace doesn’t simply borrow some of the sporty design themes found on Jaguar’s own F-Type coupe and convertible. From behind the wheel, the E-Pace is a delight thanks to its agile handling, grip on the road, and the power of its turbo four-cylinder engines.
Standard features: Even luxury brands can get stingy when it comes to the entry-level version of a given model. That’s not the case with the E-Pace. Standard equipment includes an 11.4-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone connectivity, heated front seats, wireless device charging, and surround-view parking camera.
Even sharper good looks: Jaguar didn’t heavily revise the exterior of the 2021 E-Pace, but the updated front grille and redesigned headlights make this already elegant SUV look even better. There are also new wheel designs available too.
Headroom: The E-Pace does have one notable flaw, and it’s headroom in the second-row seating. Adults of above average stature could find their craniums bidding a bumpy hello to the headliner.
