The Lexus NX 250 is a compact luxury SUV. It sits between the smaller Lexus UX and the larger Lexus RX and is the entry point for the NX lineup. Above it, there is a more powerful NX 350, plus two hybrid models, the NX 350h and NX 450h+, which are reviewed separately.
Some shoppers might want to consider the more powerful NX trims, given the NX 250's modest 203 horsepower from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. It is fuel-efficient (EPA-estimated 28 mpg combined) and should be adequate for most people, but it can't match the power of rivals such as the Acura RDX, Genesis GV70, and Mercedes-Benz GLC 300. Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Fuel economy may vary for reasons like driving conditions and vehicle history. Unless specified, figures are for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. See fueleconomy.gov.
The 2024 Lexus NX 250 sees no major changes this year, with only a few updates to the interior colors, adding color-keyed elements to the front and rear door panels.
Overall, the NX 250 is a comfortable SUV and should appeal to buyers more interested in value and fuel economy than performance.
Infotainment: Edmunds' test vehicle was equipped with the available 14-inch touchscreen. The crisp graphics are easy to read, and the screen has a quick input response time. The software is fairly menu-heavy, however, so it might involve a slight learning curve.
Driver aids: Lexus' suite of driver aids comes standard and includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistance, adaptive headlights, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert. Parking sensors and an enhanced 360-degree backup camera are available on Premium and Luxury trim levels.
Visibility: The NX 250 is easy to see out of from the front and sides. Its swoopy rear styling does cut into visibility a bit when you're glancing over your shoulder, but the side mirrors are big enough to help minimize blind spots. The rear camera resolution is clear and the view is even better on the larger center screen.
Cargo space: With 22.7 cubic feet behind the rear seats, the NX 250 doesn't have as much cargo capacity as many of its rivals. The BMW X3, for example, offers 28.7 cubic feet and the Acura RDX offers 29.5 cubic feet. That said, the cargo area for the NX 250 is wide and mostly flat, making it easy to load large or bulky objects.
