If you’re looking for a crossover SUV with futuristic styling and room for five people and their gear, the 2014 Nissan Murano may be the one. It’s a well-rounded midsize SUV that serves well as a family vehicle. The nimble handling matches the distinctive exterior vibe, and the standard V6 engine can be paired with front- or all-wheel drive depending on the model and options packages. The Murano has four trims: S, SV, SL, LE, and the distinctive CrossCabriolet version with a standard power convertible top.
The standard sport-tuned suspension and steering make the Murano an engaging SUV to drive without the body roll of other, taller SUVs. However, the stiff suspension can leave you with a rougher ride on bumpy surfaces. Responsiveness to steering and braking are well coordinated, letting you make quick transitions smoothly, like a too-fast turn in a parking lot.
The 3.5 L V6 outputs 260 hp paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The 2WD is standard, and there’s an available AWD option. For both drivetrain versions, the EPA-estimated combined fuel economy is 20 mpg.
Inside, you’ll experience the upscale feel of the cabin, which is not as flashy as the exterior might suggest. High-quality interior materials are standard, and the high-tech features are easy to use. Rear seat passengers enjoy reclining seat backs. There’s 31.6 cu-ft of luggage space behind the rear seats, which expands to 64 cu-ft with the 60/40 split seats folded down. The optional power liftgate makes loading and unloading easier. The CrossCabriolet carries four people, and its seats do not fold down.
Most Murano tech features are bundled according to trim levels, with higher versions receiving features such as leather interior, power front seats, and color monitor with rearview camera display. AWD is optional on every trim and standard on the CrossCabriolet convertible. A navigation package on SL and CrossCabriolet models adds a touchscreen system along with Bluetooth® streaming audio. The Platinum Edition on top-level LE trims adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, and 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.
The 2014 Nissan Murano is a midsize crossover SUV available in four trim levels: S, SV, SL, and LE. The CrossCabriolet is unique as an SUV with a folding cloth top. Each trim level is available in FWD and AWD. Standard features of the base S edition include dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button starting, and a six-speaker AM/FM/CD changer. Higher trim levels (SV, SL, LE) add Bluetooth® connectivity, roof rails, automatic headlights, a power liftgate, a security system, and power front seats. The Murano CrossCabriolets feature a single trim with AWD, leather heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.
