The Nissan Murano received a face-lift in 2019, but it hasn’t changed much since the current generation was introduced in 2015. The Murano is still a good value among five-seat crossovers, but the design and features are starting to look dated compared to newer Nissan models and competitors. Slotted between Nissan's compact Rogue and three-row Pathfinder, the Murano comes into the 2023 model year with minimal changes. Nissan offers the 2023 Murano in four trim levels that range from the base Murano S to the fully loaded Murano Platinum. All variants come standard with front-wheel drive and can be equipped with Nissan’s Intelligent all-wheel drive. All Muranos are powered by the same 3.5-liter V6 engine putting out 260 horsepower. While the Murano remains competitive in the five-seat crossover segment, its older design makes it less desirable than newer models like the Hyundai Santa Fe, Honda Passport, and Toyota Venza.
Interior: The Murano offers a roomy cabin with plenty of space for heads and shoulders, but legroom is slightly cramped in the rear seats. Large doors make for easy entry and exit, and once inside, seats are comfortable and supportive, helping to eliminate fatigue on long road trips. The available seat heating and cooling work well, as does the dual-zone climate control. Engine and road noise is kept at bay for a relatively quiet cabin.
Technology: The eight-inch infotainment display is the only option in the Murano, and while it looks a bit dated, the controls are intuitive and easy to use. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration are standard on all Muranos, and the native navigation system works well with Nissan’s natural-language voice control. The Murano comes well equipped with the latest in advanced driver-assist features.
Performance: The standard 3.5-liter V6 delivers good power for everyday driving, with strong acceleration available when needed. The engine is teamed with Nissan’s continuously variable transmission (CVT), which delivers power more smoothly than CVTs in some other brands. Overall, driving dynamics are good, with responsive steering and strong brakes.
Utility: The Murano offers a reasonable amount of cargo space behind the rear seats — 32.1 cubic feet — but many of its competitors provide more. Towing capacity is also lacking, with a rating of just 1,500 pounds, when properly equipped.
RepairPal gave the Nissan Murano an overall reliability rating of 4 out of 5 stars, which RepairPal describes as Above Average. This rating ranks Nissan Murano 16th out of 29 among Compact SUVs.
