The current-generation Nissan Murano has been around since 2015, receiving a minor face-lift in 2019. The Murano delivers on comfort and utility among five-passenger crossovers, but it is losing its edge in design and features when compared to newer models in the Nissan family. The Murano fills the gap between the smaller Rogue and the larger Pathfinder, and for 2022 a new Midnight Edition package debuted. The 2022 Nissan Murano is available in four trim levels: S, SV, SL, and Platinum. All Muranos are powered by Nissan's proven 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 260 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard on all trim levels, with the option of adding Nissan's Intelligent all-wheel-drive system. While it still has much to offer in the five-passenger crossover segment, it looks dated compared to newer models like the Hyundai Santa Fe, Honda Passport, and Toyota Venza.
Interior: The Murano has a spacious cabin with ample headroom and shoulder room, but the legroom in the rear seat could be better. The doors are large with wide openings for easy entry and exit, and the seats are reasonably comfortable and supportive for long drives. The cabin is relatively quiet, with little engine or road noise.
Technology: The Murano's eight-inch touchscreen display looks a bit dated, but its simple controls make it relatively easy to use and navigate. Both Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration is standard across the board, and Nissan's natural-language voice assistant works quite well. The expected list of advanced driver-assist systems is standard on all Murano trim levels, including automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
Performance: The Murano's standard 3.5-liter V6 engine delivers good power for daily driving and can accelerate quickly when needed. The engine works surprisingly well with Nissan's smooth continuously variable transmission (CVT), which is better than some other CVTs on the market. The Murano handles well, with agile steering and powerful brakes.
Utility: The Murano has a reasonable cargo area behind the back seats, but it is smaller than many rivals, with 32.1 cubic feet of space. It also has a towing capacity of only 1,500 pounds, severely limiting this crossover's utility.
RepairPal gave the Nissan Murano an overall reliability rating of 4 out of 5 stars, which RepairPal describes as Above Average. This rating ranks Nissan Murano 16th out of 29 among Compact SUVs.
