Based on the same platform used in the Audi A6 sedan, the 2022 Audi S7 features a more swept-back shape that’s highlighted by a tapering roofline and power-operated rear liftgate. Positioned above the regular A7 that uses a 335-horsepower turbocharged V6, the S7 comes with a 444-hp turbo 2.9-liter V6 under its hood. To help improve fuel economy, this powertrain has a mild hybrid system that returns an EPA-estimated combined figure of 22 mpg. All-wheel drive is standard, as is an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The S7 is available in two trim levels, Premium Plus and Prestige, and each is extremely well equipped when it comes to comfort, tech, and driver assist features. These include leather seating, quad-zone climate control, wireless device charging, and head-up instrument display, to name a few. New for the 2022 model year, the S7 gets rear airbags as standard equipment.
With its sharp steering reflexes and impressive acceleration, the S7 is a worthy rival to competitors that include the Porsche Panamera, Mercedes-Benz CLS, and BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe.
Turbo V6: The key selling point when upgrading from the A7 to the S7 is the 444-hp turbo V6. Added performance upgrades include all-wheel steering, a sport rear differential, and active exhaust system.
Trunk volume: Thanks to its hatchback-style trunk, the S7 provides an easily accessible cargo area with more than 24 cubic feet in capacity. That’s a substantial amount of space even for a large luxury sedan.
Cabin quality: The fit and finish of the S7’s interior is first-rate. All major controls are logically placed and the degree of standard comfort touches is impressive.
Rear headroom: Sure, the S7 has a head-turning shape, but taller adults in the back seat might find their craniums making contact with the headliner. Headroom in the second row is limited by the tapering roofline.
