28 city, 34 highway, 31 combined

The 2023 Nissan Rogue is a highly competent and value-packed choice among five-passenger compact SUVs. Competing against the likes of the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, and Toyota RAV4, the Rogue stands out thanks to its airy cabin, roomy cargo hold, and punchy 201-horsepower turbocharged three-cylinder engine coupled to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).
In front-wheel-drive format, the Rogue gets an impressive EPA-estimated 33 mpg combined average in city and highway driving. All-wheel drive is optional and, even with it fitted, fuel economy is a stout EPA-estimated 31 mpg combined. Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Fuel economy may vary for reasons like driving conditions and vehicle history. Unless specified, figures are for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. See fueleconomy.gov. The ride is comfortable and the suspension copes well with imperfect road surfaces. Yet a number of rivals have livelier handling, and the Rogue’s steering doesn’t offer much feel.
To its credit, the Rogue comes with a long lineup of standard comfort, tech, and driver-assist features. It also offers options you won’t find on many of its competitors, including wireless Apple CarPlay®, tri-zone climate control, a head-up display, and Nissan’s ProPilot Assist suite of advanced driver-assist systems.

Fuel economy: The quirky turbocharged three-cylinder stands out among a sea of rival SUVs that have four-cylinder engines under their hood. Peppy for the class, the Rogue’s engine is excellent when it comes to fuel mileage, especially in the front-wheel-drive configuration.
Standard features: The Rogue is great if you’re averse to loading on lots of pricey options. Standard features include an easy-to-use eight-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, satellite radio, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and driver attention monitor.
Intriguing options: The options available on the Rogue are definitely worth consideration. This includes Nissan’s ProPilot Assist, a semi-autonomous driving aid that maintains a safe driving distance to vehicles ahead and keeps the Rogue in the center of its lane.
Dull steering responses: The Rogue gets down the road with a minimum of fuss, but it could use more sparkle when it comes to steering responses. There is very little road feel and a noticeable dead spot in the center of the steering at city speeds.
