The Macan compact crossover joined the already popular Cayenne SUV in Porsche's lineup in 2015. As the lowest-priced entry in the Porsche lineup, the Macan quickly became the brand's best-selling model. For 2019 the Macan gets a face-lift with updated front and rear bumpers, new taillights, and new wheel designs. The inside also has been refreshed, centered around a new 10.9-inch display screen.
As Porsche transitioned to this updated design, it temporarily dropped the Turbo and GTS from the Macan lineup, leaving the base model and the S, sporting 248-horsepower and 348-horsepower engines, respectively. While the Macan brings the utility expected of a compact crossover, it is designed for performance with a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system, quick-shifting automatic, and sport suspension—all making it a proper Porsche SUV.
Performance: Following in the tracks of its larger Cayenne sibling, the Macan brings impressive performance to the compact crossover market. Not only do both engines provide quick acceleration, but overall the Macan drives like a Porsche with precise steering, strong brakes, and excellent handling. The sport suspension keeps the Macan planted in the corners with a stable, confident ride.
Comfort: The Macan's cabin has a premium vibe, especially on the higher-level S trim. Power-adjustable front seats can be trimmed in leather, with heating and ventilation added for comfort. The rear seat may be tight, but it still offers more space than Porsche's sports cars. The available adaptive air suspension provides a more comfortable ride without sacrificing performance.
Technology: Porsche upgrades the 2019 Macan with a new, larger 10.9-inch touchscreen display, matching the offering in the Cayenne and Panamera. Nicely integrated into the dash, the display provides intuitive access to the infotainment system with a configurable home screen. Multiple USB ports are found throughout the cabin, and Porsche offers a Wi-Fi package to keep the entire family connected.
Utility: It may be great fun to drive, but the Macan lacks practicality. The cargo space is among the smallest in the category, and there's very little storage up front. The rear seats fold flat, making the Macan more useful when hauling large items.
