Porsche is well known for its legendary sports cars—especially the 911—but a sports car doesn't fit everyone's lifestyle. In 2011 Porsche saw this as an opportunity and rolled out its first modern four-door sedan, the Panamera. Available as the standard sedan, an extended-wheelbase model, and even a Sport Turismo wagon, the Panamera comes into the 2022 model year with minimal changes. The Panamera is a proper Porsche, exhibiting the high levels of performance associated with that iconic brand. Several different powertrains include a V6, a turbocharged V8, and two hybrid variants. Eight trim levels ensure there is a Panamera that will meet the needs of almost any customer. With sports-car-like handling and a high-tech interior, the Panamera holds its own against competitors like the Mercedes-AMG E 63, BMW M6 Gran Coupe, and Audi RS 7.
Performance: The Panamera may be a large sedan, but it's also a Porsche with the exceptional driving performance expected from this iconic brand. Even the entry-level model is very quick off the line; Edmunds reports it can reach 60 mph in less than 5 seconds. The steering is precise and responsive, and the big sedan feels agile and nimble on a twisty road. Performance is even more impressive in the higher-level variants.
Comfort: As exciting as the Panamera is to drive enthusiastically, it works well as a luxury sedan. The suspension smooths out bumps in the road for a comfortable, quiet ride. Depending on how much you want to spend, the Panamera is available with luxury features like massaging seats trimmed in soft leather, four-zone climate control, and soft-close doors.
Technology: The Panamera has a 12.3-inch touchscreen display integrated into the dashboard. Wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ come standard, as does a high-end Bose® audio system and Bluetooth® connectivity. Porsche offers the latest advanced driver-assist features in the Panamera, including automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, adaptive cruise control, and night vision.
Storage: The hatchback design of the Panamera seems like it would lend itself to good cargo-carrying capabilities, but the trunk space is shallow and has a high liftover sill, which isn't very convenient. The Sport Turismo offers a bit more space and improved versatility. Storage locations throughout the cabin are small, including the glove box and center console bin.
