Heavy-duty trucks are built for hard work or hard play. They’re designed to tow the heaviest trailers and haul up to two tons of cargo. The Ram 2500 is a solid player in the comparatively small field of consumer pickups with enhanced capability. Competitors are few, but tough, such as the Ford F-250, Chevrolet Silverado 2500, and GMC Sierra HD.
For the 2023 model year, the Ram 2500 is among the top options available. This was the first year for the Rebel trim level, which delivered an off-road-ready truck at an affordable price point. The Rebel includes a special off-road suspension, four-wheel drive, plus the buyer’s choice of a 6.4-liter HEMI® V8 engine or 6.7-liter Cummins turbo-diesel engine. The Ram also received upgrades to its available towing equipment, including new trailer tow camera views, along with power-telescoping trailering mirrors. A new Trailer Reverse Steering Control system is also available, making it easier to guide a trailer while backing up. Finally, Ram added an available 12.3-inch digital instrumentation display.

Towing and cargo capacity: With a payload capacity of 4,010 pounds, you can haul two tons of stuff, or tow up to 20,000 pounds with the proper configuration.
Powerful engine options: The HEMI V8 engine makes 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, or choose the six-cylinder Cummins and you’ll get 370 horsepower and 850 lb-ft of torque. The eight-speed automatic transmission and available four-wheel-drive system round out the Ram’s capability.
Trailering technology: Trailer Reverse Steering Control allows the driver to enter a few measurements before the Ram’s camera system tracks the trailer position to back up and guide the trailer. There’s a dial on the dash, and you simply rotate the dial left or right in the direction you want the trailer to go while the system controls the steering wheel. Trailer tow mirrors with telescoping capability are available across the Ram lineup.
Fuel economy: The trade-off for all that engine power is reduced fuel economy. The EPA does not officially estimate fuel economy for heavy-duty trucks, but most drivers can expect 15-20 mpg when the Ram 2500 is unloaded, and less when hauling or towing.
