The Ram 2500 (formerly known as the Dodge Ram 2500) is a heavy-duty truck with one of the nicest interiors available in its class and some top-notch technology features. It’s offered in several cab configurations with either an 8-foot or 6-foot 4-inch bed. When properly equipped, the Ram 2500 has a maximum payload capacity around 4,000 pounds and maximum trailer towing capacity around 20,000 pounds, making it more than a match for most jobs. Various factors may impact towing capacity, including weight of passengers, cargo, and options/accessories. But even with its impressive performance, the Ram 2500 is middle of the pack in terms of max capability. Its most notable downsides are the noisy optional diesel engine, and a driving position that will be a little too high for some drivers.
For 2022, the Ram 2500’s tech features get a boost. The 2500’s infotainment has been updated to the latest-generation hardware, with improved performance even though the screen sizes remain the same. Additionally, the optional trailer tow package now includes remote camera systems that can be added to trailers to improve visibility and awareness when connected to screens in the cabin.

Strong engine choices: Only two engines are available for the Ram 2500, but both are impressive performers. The standard engine is a gasoline V8 making 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. The optional turbocharged six-cylinder diesel engine gives you 370 horsepower and a massive 850 lb-ft of torque. That’s not class-leading, but it’s still very impressive.
Excellent comfort: The Ram 2500’s cabin is one of the nicest in the segment, with comfortable seats and upscale materials, especially in higher trim levels. The Ram also offers a less bumpy and quieter freeway cruising experience than other heavy-duty trucks, at least with the gas V8. The Ram is definitely the comfort pick for the segment.
Impressive tech features: The Ram 2500 offers tons of technology upgrades. Inside the cabin, the 2500 can be specced with wireless phone charging and an expansive 12.3-inch touchscreen. A full suite of advanced driver aids are available, and the Ram can be optioned with advanced towing aids including a set of trailer-view cameras.
Noisy diesel engine: While the optional diesel engine offers great capability, it also comes with some unpleasant noise and vibration that’s especially noticeable during freeway cruising. In a truck that’s as quiet overall as the Ram 2500, the diesel’s coarse soundtrack can be intrusive.
