The 2022 Ram Promaster 3500 brings together almost a decade of cargo van innovation with cutting-edge gadgetry. While the 2022 model sticks with Ram's 280 horsepower engine, it upgrades from a six-speed to a nine-speed transmission, which complements power with control. The 2022 Promaster 3500 also gets a radically redesigned interior, including new and bigger screens on the dash and center consoles, along with a list of driver aids you didn't even know you wanted. With a wide range of chassis, wheelbase, and hull options to boot, there's a reason the Promaster 3500 is Ram's top-fleet commercial cargo van.
Under the hood of the 2022 Promaster 3500 is Ram's trusted 3.6L Pentastar® 280-horsepower V6 engine. You'll still get an estimated 260 lb-ft of torque and 6,800 lbs of towing capacity, when properly equipped. What is new in 2022 is the transmission, which has been upgraded from a six-speed to an automatic nine-speed. While the automatic clutch will do the work for you, you'll undoubtedly notice the difference from those three added gears. Less unnecessary revving with quicker transitions in that tricky mid-range.
What separates the Promaster 3500 is the variety of builds on offer. Look out for the size that fits your needs. With two wheelbases (short or wide), two roof heights (low or high), and two body lengths (standard or extended), Ram has a cargo van for you. At the low end of those dimensions, you'll end up with 303 cu-ft in the hull, while the high end offers 462 cu-ft.
The 2022 Ram Promaster 3500 brings a total technological remodel to the interior. There's a new seven-inch touchscreen color display as standard in the center console (with a 10.1-inch display available on certain models), along with a 3.5-inch driver information screen in the dash. The Uconnect® software offers a bevy of services, including Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration, plus dual smartphone Bluetooth® connectivity.
Ram fitted the 2022 Promaster 3500 with front-wheel drive as a practical perk. By positioning all the FWD engineering upfront, the Promaster 3500 lowers the floor height and thus improves the ergonomics of maneuvering in and out of the van. FWD also keeps the power in the front wheels, which enhances handling and traction on tricky surfaces. Such a focus on practical, baseline practicality is testament to Ram's understanding of its customers.
There is a wide range driver aids available for the 2022 Ram Promaster 3500. Some notable highlights include smart key, automated cruise control, and parking sensors. Blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning, and drowsy-driver detection are also available features. If you do long highway drives, look out for the available crosswind assist to help that boxy frame resist windy conditions.
