Sitting above the Audi Q7 in the lineup, the 2022 Audi Q8 is a stylish and sporty take on what a luxury SUV can be. For the 2022 model year, every Q8 receives Audi’s new infotainment system, which includes wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone integration.
The Audi Q8’s driving dynamics back up its sporty styling, with good acceleration from the V6 engine, admirable handling and steering, while still providing a comfortable ride. A Sport mode sharpens responses further and makes the engine feel a bit livelier with more aggressive tuning of the throttle.
Inside, the 2022 Q8 is plenty comfortable in the front and in the rear. Cargo behind the second row is decent, but the Q8 could use more space inside for small-item storage. After a short learning curve, the infotainment system is fairly straightforward, but not as nice as the MBUX system in Mercedes-Benz vehicles. If you want a full suite of driver assist systems, look for Premium Plus and above trims; unfortunately, the base model comes with just the basics.
Driving dynamics: The Audi Q8 backs up its sporty looks with good driving dynamics. Surprising, because this is a big and heavy SUV. Still, the steering and suspension are responsive without limiting comfort, and the Sport mode helps sharpen everything up a notch to give the Q8 an even more satisfying feel behind the wheel.
Comfort: The front and rear seats in the 2022 Q8 are firmly padded, but with enough give to them that they’re excellent for long-haul trips. It’s especially nice to see the rear seats, which often get little attention, even in luxury vehicles.
Roomy interior and cargo: There’s a ton of space inside the Q8, with ample head and legroom in the front and rear contributing to the overall feeling of comfort. The cargo area is also generous, and if the need arises, the Q8 can tow up to 7,700 pounds when properly equipped, pretty stout for this class of vehicle.
Driver assist systems reserved for higher trims: Like many European luxury brands, Audi holds off on making its complete suite of driver assist systems standard equipment. Base models come with automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning, but if you want adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist, you’ll have to step up to the Premium Plus model or higher.
