2017 BMW M4 review

1. Two engine options 

BMW’s M performance arm is no stranger to turning its otherwise fairly tame lineup into a collection of legitimate performance vehicles. When M first got its hands on the 4-Series, it tuned its 3.0L six-cylinder engine to a whopping 425 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. In the 2017 model year, M went a step further with the all-new Competition Package model that pushes the output to an even more impressive 444 hp. Without the Competition Package, the M4 is plenty quick, with its 3.9-second zero-to-60 time in the coupe or 4.2 seconds in the convertible. Add in the Competition Package, and these numbers tick to just 3.8 seconds and 4.1 seconds, respectively. 

2. Roomy and supportive front seats 

Carving up a windy road is much more comfortable with well-bolstered seats that help keep you from sliding around as you zip through corners. The M4’s front seats can handle that perfectly, thanks to having just the right bolstering to keep you secure. However, they are not so grippy they become uncomfortable. These front seats also accommodate people of all sizes with 42.2 inches of legroom. 

3. Top-notch technology 

The BMW M4 has lots of premium, high-tech equipment as standard, starting with HD Radio, navigation, SiriusXM^Ⓡ,  and push-button start. The 2017 M4 also boasts a standard 16-speaker Harman Kardon^Ⓡ premium audio system for the audiophile inside you. Other desirable tech features you’ll find standard on the M4 include adaptive xenon headlights, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, ambient lighting, and Bluetooth^Ⓡ connectivity.  

4. More competition upgrades 

You already know the star of the Competition Package is the power boost to 444 hp. However, this package includes much more than just a few extra ponies. It also improves the M4’s handling with Adaptive M Suspension, reconfigured driving modes, an Active M Differential, reworked dynamic stability control, and upgraded wheels. Other Competition Package upgrades you’ll love include lightweight M sports seats, an M Sport exhaust system with black tips, and the BMW Individual Shadowline exterior trim.  

5. Two bodies 

The 2017 BMW M4 gives you plenty of options to customize it. You can even choose your preferred body style. If you want the wind in your hair as you cruise down the interstate, the M4 convertible is the way to go. The coupe model is likely a great option if you prefer a cleaner look and reduced wind and road noise. No matter which body you prefer, the 2017 M4 is a beauty from all angles.
