The 2023 Cadillac XT5 is a luxury five-passenger crossover SUV and is consistently one of the best-selling models in the Cadillac lineup. Slotted between the XT4 and XT6, the XT5 isn’t much different from when it was introduced in 2017, aside from a refresh in 2020. For 2023, the XT5 remains primarily unchanged, with a few new color options and a standard compact spare tire on all trim levels. Cadillac offers the XT5 in three trim levels: Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport. The latter has a more performance-oriented look with dark exterior trim and stylish 20-inch wheels with red brake calipers. A 2.0-liter turbocharged 237-horsepower engine is standard, while a 3.6-liter V6 engine putting out 310 horsepower is standard on the Sport and available on other trims. The XT5 may be a bit dated, but it still competes well against vehicles like the BMW X5, Audi Q5, and Lexus RX.
Interior: The Cadillac XT5 has a roomy cabin that provides good legroom and headroom for both front and second-row passengers. The front seats have decent bolstering for good support, and multiple adjustments make finding the correct driving position easy. Overall the interior is stylish, with high-quality materials and intuitive controls.
Performance: There are two engine options for the XT5, but it’s the V6 that unsurprisingly delivers the best performance. According to the Edmunds review, the XT5 can reach 60 mph in 6.7 seconds—certainly respectable for a midsize crossover. The transmission shifts smoothly and quietly, and handling is more than adequate for getting around town or adventuring out in the country.
Technology: While its eight-inch display screen is smaller than many of its competitors, the XT5’s infotainment system is intuitive and easy to navigate, with static shortcuts and physical knobs and buttons for volume and menu selections. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ connect wirelessly for added convenience. Most advanced driver-assist features are standard, including automatic emergency braking and lane keeping assistance.
Fuel economy: The Cadillac XT5 gets good performance from either engine, but that does come at a cost in terms of fuel economy. The smaller 2.0-liter engine is EPA-estimated at 24 mpg combined, while the more powerful 3.6-liter V6 gets an estimate of 21 mpg combined.
