One of the best-selling models in the Cadillac lineup, the midsize XT5 slots appropriately between the XT4 and XT6 crossovers. Introduced in 2017, the XT5 was refreshed in 2020 but ultimately isn’t much different from when it debuted. For the 2022 model year, the XT5 remains primarily unchanged; however, the Sport gets front Brembo brakes with red calipers as well as additional available colors. The 2022 Cadillac XT5 comes in three trim levels: Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport. Front-wheel drive is standard on the lower two trims, while all-wheel drive is standard on the Sport and optional on the Premium Luxury. Cadillac offers the XT5 with two engine choices: a 237-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder or a more powerful 3.6-liter V6 that puts out 310 horsepower. Considering its age, the XT5 holds up well against competitors like the Audi Q5, Lexus RX, and Lincoln Nautilus.
Interior: Boasting a roomy cabin, the Cadillac XT5 offers good legroom and headroom for both front and rear passengers. The front seats are comfortable with adequate bolstering, providing good support during long stints behind the wheel. The interior features high-quality materials and an elegant design with controls that are intuitive and easy to use.
Performance: Cadillac offers the XT5 with two engine options, and the standard turbocharged powerplant provides punchy response and works well for getting around town. Upgrading to the V6 delivers much better acceleration, although the engine sounds unrefined at higher rpm. Handling is decent, and the XT5 is more than competent when the road gets twisty.
Technology: Cadillac’s infotainment system is one of the better options on the market, with easy-to-read icons and an intuitive interface with static shortcuts for quick access. While the eight-inch screen integrates nicely into the cabin design, it is smaller than most competing vehicles offer. Wireless integration of Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ is standard, and there are a number of USB charging ports throughout the XT5’s cabin.
Fuel economy: While the Cadillac XT5 delivers good performance with either engine option, that performance comes at the expense of fuel efficiency. The 2.0-liter engine, though smaller, has an EPA-estimated combined rating of 24 mpg, whereas the more potent 3.6-liter V6 has a combined rating of 21 mpg with either front- or all-wheel drive.
