When it comes to moving people and cargo, it's hard to beat the versatility of the minivan, and the Chrysler Pacifica is a prime example. The number of vehicles in this category has dwindled to just a few, including the Honda Odyssey, Kia Carnival, and Toyota Sienna, but although the Pacifica isn’t quite as refined as those competitors, it holds its own. Refreshed inside and out for the 2021 model year, the Pacifica comes into 2023 with a new Road Tripper package and equipment updates. Chrysler offers the Pacifica in four trims: Touring, Touring L, Limited, and Pinnacle. All Pacifica variants are powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine putting out 287 horsepower. All-wheel drive is available on all versions except the base-level Touring, which is front-wheel-drive only. Chrysler also offers a plug-in hybrid version of the Pacifica, which is covered on CarMax separately.
Interior: With wide doors, a tall roof, and low sills, the Pacifica is simple to climb in or out of. Once inside, there's good legroom and headroom in all seating positions, and access to the third row is easily accomplished. The front seats have nice padding for good support and comfort, as well as heating and cooling. The ride is smooth, and the Pacifica provides good visibility all around.
Technology: The Uconnect® 5 system operating on the integrated 10.1-inch display screen is one of the better infotainment systems on the market. The system is configurable with 19 widgets that can be customized on the display for quick access to the most used items. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ connect wirelessly, and there are multiple USB ports throughout the cabin. The optional rear-seat entertainment system can stream video or audio from the most popular sources.
Storage: With its somewhat boxy shape, the Pacifica is designed to handle all sorts of cargo. A large well behind the third row provides plenty of space for luggage or groceries, and the third row easily folds into that well to provide a large flat space. Pacifica also offers the innovative Stow 'n Go® seats in the second row that can fold into the floor or provide storage below the floor when the seats are in use.
Performance: The 2023 Chrysler Pacifica doesn't provide the performance of the Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna, but the V6 delivers adequate acceleration. It's not enough power to push you back in the seat, but it will get up to highway speed without much difficulty. The nine-speed automatic occasionally has difficulty choosing a gear when going up or down steep hills, which can hamper a smooth ride.
