The 2023 Genesis G80 is a midsize luxury sedan with a sleek exterior design and a high-quality cabin. Competing against the likes of the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the G80 stands out as a solid value thanks to its many standard comfort and driver-assist features. These include synthetic leather seating upholstery, a 14.5-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, and a 12-speaker stereo.
The G80 can be had with either a turbocharged four-cylinder or a twin-turbo V6. The 2023 model year brought the introduction of an all-electric model called the Electrified G80. It offers an EPA-estimated 282 miles of range and comes with DC fast-charging tech to limit the amount of time spent plugged in. Rear-wheel drive is standard with the turbo-four, but all-wheel drive is also available. Both the twin-turbo V6 and the electric powertrain have standard all-wheel drive.
Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Fuel economy may vary for reasons like driving conditions and vehicle history. Unless specified, figures are for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. See fueleconomy.gov.
Exterior and interior design: Styling is subjective but there’s no arguing the G80 has an attention-grabbing exterior. Its shield-like front grille and split headlights give it plenty of personality. The cabin is also modern, attractive, and filled with materials that feel built to last.
Engine choices: The base 300-hp turbocharged four-cylinder has more than enough straight-line performance, though the 375-hp twin-turbo V6 is awfully fun when you need a boost of speed. The added choice of the 365-hp electric powertrain is also a good alternative.
Features for the money: The G80 is commendable for providing an excellent value compared to pricier competitors. Its long roster of tech and driver-assist features is impressive, and it means you might not need to jump to upper trim levels to have a well-appointed luxury car.
Ride quality: On the road, the G80 lacks some of the polish you experience in competing luxury sedans. The adaptive suspension is definitely geared more toward comfort than sporty driving dynamics. However, the ride can lose some of that refinement over cracked pavement.
