The Acadia is a three-row SUV that slots into the GMC lineup between the compact Terrain and full-size Yukon. When redesigned in 2020, the Acadia took on styling similar to the rest of GMC’s SUV lineup with a bold grille emblazoned with a large GMC logo in the center. Aside from a few new colors and an updated steering wheel, the Acadia remains unchanged for the 2023 model year. GMC offers the Acadia in a range of trim levels that include the off-road-ready AT4 and top-of-the-line Denali, which brings a level of luxury to this midsize SUV. Acadia is available with front-wheel or all-wheel drive (AWD is standard in the AT4) and is offered with two powertrains that include a potent 3.6-liter V6 engine putting out 310 horsepower. With seating for up to seven people, the Acadia has some strong competition from vehicles like the Hyundai Palisade, Jeep Grand Cherokee L, Kia Telluride, Subaru Ascent, and Volkswagen Atlas.
Technology: The 2023 GMC Acadia has an eight-inch infotainment display with an intuitive design that features large icons for easy navigation. Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® come standard with wireless connectivity, and the Acadia can be equipped with a Wi-Fi hotspot
Performance: The turbocharged four-cylinder engine that comes standard on the Acadia SLE and SLT provides adequate power. However, the 310-horsepower V6 improves driving dynamics, especially with a full load of passengers and cargo. The available adaptive suspension helps to keep the ride smooth in the top-level Denali, while the Active Torque Control on the AT4 improves off-road capability.
Driver aids: GMC equips all Acadias with a driver aid package. This package includes the latest advanced driver-assist systems, such as automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane keeping assistance, lane change alert, rear cross-traffic warning, and a following distance indicator. The Acadia also gets an HD rearview camera and front parking assist.
Utility: The Acadia's first two rows have plenty of space, but the third row is very tight, making it unsuitable for full-size adults. Cargo space behind the third row is on the small side, measuring just 12.8 cubic feet. Trailer towing is rated at 4,000 pounds (when properly equipped) with the larger engine, less than most of the Acadia’s competitors.
RepairPal gave the GMC Acadia an overall reliability rating of 3.5 out of 5 stars, which RepairPal describes as Above Average. This rating ranks GMC Acadia 29th out of 32 among Midsize SUVs.
