If you’re looking for a practical, frugal car that doesn’t compromise on cargo space and driving experience, check out the 2016 Honda Fit hatchback. The Magic Seat and spacious rear area swallow up lots of cargo. If you’re carrying passengers, the rear seats hold two adults comfortably. The combination of practicality and entertaining driving with either the available manual or CVT transmission wins the Fit a lot of fans. Soft-touch materials impart a luxury feel, while abundant cup holders and storage make you feel right at home. Even the base-level LX has plenty of tech, like a high-definition LCD for the audio system.
You won’t have to choose between features and accessibility. The base level LX has a rearview camera, a five-inch audio display screen, cruise control, remote keyless entry, power windows and door locks, and one-touch up/down driver’s window. Plus, you get air conditioning, a 60/40-split second row, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, LED taillights, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and Bluetooth® connectivity.
If you like the finer things, move up to the EX model, where you get paddle shifters on models with the CVT, plus exterior upgrades like 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels and fog lights. Inside, you can enjoy a seven-inch touchscreen audio system, moonroof, and Honda’s LaneWatch™ camera to view the right side of the car. For more luxury, step up to the EX-L model with leather upholstery, heated front seats, and available navigation.
You don’t need a wand to see the Magic Seat in action. Just fold up the seat bottoms of the 60/40-split rear bench, and you have floor-to-ceiling cargo space for tall objects. Of course, the rear bench seat also folds flat like normal, offering 53 cu-ft of cargo space.
No one will mistake the Fit for a muscle car, but it offers a composed driving experience that can make city driving more enjoyable. The steering is tight and centered, and you can feel the improvements from the 16-inch wheels that come standard on EX and EX-L models. Combined with the responsiveness of the available manual transmission or CVT with paddle shifters, the Fit offers you a blend of practicality and entertainment.
You’ll get used to waving at gas stations as you cruise by in a frugal Honda Fit. Fuel economy comes from the 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with advanced fuel injection to ensure balanced performance. According to EPA estimates, the manual-transmission 2016 Fit returns 32 mpg combined.
