2020 Mercedes-Benz Metris

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz Metris is a midsize van whose size and capability put it between competitors like the Ford Transit Connect and its larger sibling, the Transit. It can haul more than its smaller competitors and its larger size, combined with its impressive engine, makes it a solid upgrade for those looking for a capable van that's on the smaller size.

Utility is the Metris' calling card. It can tow more than 5,000 pounds and its payload capacity is greater than 2,000 pounds when properly equipped. Various factors may impact towing capacity, including weight of passengers, cargo, and options/accessories. It is wider and longer than its smaller rivals, making it a great choice for shoppers who value utility. The Metris' turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is powerful; this van is engaging to drive thanks to the engine and the Metris' impressive handling.

The Metris is a basic van, featuring a 5.7-inch touchscreen with no Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto™ compatibility (that was added in 2021). Cruise control is an optional feature and more advanced driver aids like adaptive cruise control are nowhere to be found.

5 reasons to buy the 2020 Mercedes-Benz Metris

What We Like

Performance: The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is the only engine available on the Metris, and it's plenty powerful. You might not buy a Metris solely because it's fun to drive, but its spritely engine and spirited handling certainly make driving the van more enjoyable.

Utility: The Metris boasts impressive towing and payload capacity when properly equipped, and it has a larger rear cargo area than its rivals.

Interior: The Metris is available in both cargo and passenger configurations and both are utilitarian in their design. The front passenger seats in both trims are comfortable for long journeys while the rear space is great for hauling cargo, whether in passenger trim or not.

What Needs Improvement

Standard Features: Many desirable features are optional, including cruise control, fog lights, and an extra set of keys. Other common features, like advanced cruise control and Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto aren't available at all. If they’re important to you, look for the 2021 Metris models, which featured them.
