2022 Mercedes-Benz Metris is a midsize van that packs a punch

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz Metris is a midsize van that splits the difference between smaller competitors like the Ram ProMaster City and Ford Transit Connect, and its larger sibling, the Sprinter. It is available in cargo and passenger configurations, both of which are driven by the same powerful turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The Metris can deliver more than 5,000 pounds of towing and 2,000 pounds of payload capacity when properly equipped. Various factors may impact towing capacity, including weight of passengers, cargo, and options/accessories.

Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ both come standard on a seven-inch touchscreen, and the front passenger seats are comfortable for long days behind the wheel. In the passenger configuration, the Metris can hold up to eight passengers. But this particular Mercedes is no luxury vehicle, and road noise is high whether the van is empty or packed to the gills. Many features, including adaptive cruise control, are optional.

The Metris is more powerful and larger than some of its counterparts, but if you don't need the extra oomph, you might be better off shopping around.

5 reasons to buy the 2022 Mercedes-Benz Metris

What We Like

Performance: The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is powerful and engaging. You're probably not buying the Metris because of its lively engine, but the German power unit certainly possesses more character than its rivals.

Utility: The Metris boasts a large cargo area and available features like anchor points, LED strips, and rails for cargo lashing. That, in addition to its impressive payload and towing capacity, make it a seriously useful van.

Tech: Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto are standard features and the seven-inch touchscreen, while basic, is functional and easy to use. Welcome features like adaptive cruise control and a digital rearview camera are available whether you choose the cargo or the passenger van.

What Needs Improvement

Standard features: The Metris in its base configuration is pretty bare-bones. Cruise control is an available feature, as are foglights and an extra set of keys. Finding a Metris that comes with all the comforts you desire may be challenging given how few of them come standard.
