13 city, 18 highway, 15 combined

There’s a lot to like about the 2019 Nissan Armada. It has up to 8,500 pounds of towing capacity thanks to its muscular V8 engine and trucklike body-on-frame design. Various factors may impact towing capacity, including weight of passengers, cargo, and options/accessories. The interior is quiet at highway speeds, and extras like the surround-view camera help make in-town maneuverability a snap, relatively speaking, for a full-size SUV. Despite its off-road-ready underpinnings, backed up by a highly capable four-wheel drive system, the Armada has a surprisingly comfortable ride over small and medium-size bumps.
Unfortunately, the 2019 Armada also has more shortcomings than some of its rivals. The outdated infotainment system doesn’t feature Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto™, and most driver-assist systems are optional, although automatic emergency braking was made standard for this model year. The Armada’s interior doesn’t offer enough room in the third row for anybody but children, and the second-row captain's chairs are fixed in place, offering no adjustment. Fuel economy also trails rivals, with two-wheel-drive models only managing an EPA-estimated 16 mpg combined score. Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Fuel economy may vary for reasons like driving conditions and vehicle history. Unless specified, figures are for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. See fueleconomy.gov.
Driving: With a powerful V8 under the hood and a suspension that balances comfort and control, the 2019 Armada is easy and comfortable to drive. It handily out-accelerates rivals like the Chevy Tahoe and has plenty of passing power at highway speeds. The brakes are also strong and responsive, which is important in a big, heavy vehicle like this. On the road, the soft suspension soaks up small and medium-sized bumps without fuss.
Towing: One of the reasons to buy a traditional full-size SUV is for towing, and here the Armada shines. Able to tow up to 8,500 pounds when properly equipped, the Armada can handle large trailers, a decent-size boat, or other big loads.
Interior refinement: From the upscale-feeling materials to the overall design, the 2019 Nissan Armada feels a class above many of its rivals. Everything has a solid feel to it, and the hush of the interior at speed also imparts the feeling of a higher-priced vehicle. A lot of credit goes to multiple parts shared with the Infiniti QX80, a luxury version of this same vehicle.
Technology: As nice as the Armada is, it comes up short in a key area compared to its rivals: technology. The infotainment system feels dated, not just because of the interface, but because of the lack of Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. While Nissan made automatic emergency braking standard this year, other technologies remain available only on higher-level trim models.
