If you need work versatility in a compact vehicle, the Ram ProMaster City delivers impressive cargo carrying in an easy-to-drive van. Two body styles let you pick the focus, with Wagon adding a second row of seats, and Cargo maximizing utility. With nimble handling and a small turning circle, the ProMaster City is great for navigating small alleyways and cluttered job sites. Standard features offer flexible cargo management, and options let you customize it to your work needs. The 2020 model can be distinguished by a few updates, most notably a modern RAM-lettered grille on the outside, and available Ram Telematics™ for fleet users. Activation with subscription may be required for some of these features.
1. All the cargo
The 2020 Ram ProMaster City can manage all your deliveries, with up to 131.7 cu-ft of cargo space with the trades-ready Cargo version. A loading floor over four feet wide can accept standard-size pallets, and the standard maximum estimated 1,890 lb payload capacity lets you haul heavy equipment. Standard roof loading and towing allow for outsized cargo.
The Ram ProMaster City is whatever you make of it. The nearly vertical walls and 51.8-inch floor-to-ceiling height are perfect for aftermarket shelving. Available LED lighting and storage drawers transform the van into an all-hours mobile workshop. The wide rear doors and low, flat floor are perfect for a wheelchair or power scooter lift.
Ram keeps it simple under the hood with one standard configuration. A 2.4L four-cylinder develops 178 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque for powering up hills and steep driveways. Paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission that drives the front wheels, this engine is good for a zero to 30 time of 3.7 seconds for keeping up with suburban traffic. When unloaded, the ProMaster City has an EPA-estimated 24 mpg combined.
A standard USB port and two 12V outlets ensure all your work devices have power. The available vinyl interior is easy to wipe clean of landscape mulch or lawncare chemicals. Standard tie-down rings allow for flexibility in securing cargo. Optional rear parking sensors assist with backing out of clients’ driveways, while the standard camera helps rear visibility. Optional navigation gets you to the next customer on time.
Rather than a lumbering diesel V8 cargo truck, the ProMaster City is easy to drive on congested streets thanks to its compact size. At 187.5 inches long, it’s right about the same dimensions as a mid-size crossover, and just as easy to drive thanks to hydraulic power steering. At just over six feet tall, it fits into standard-size garages, and with an 18-foot turning circle, it can get out of a dead-end street with ease.
