The 2016 Toyota Mirai is powered by a battery-electric motor and hydrogen fuel cell, setting it apart from traditional EVs. Instead of plugging it in to charge the battery, you instead fill up with hydrogen. This powertrain is not only capable of achieving an EPA-estimated 67 MPGe combined, as well as an EPA-estimated range of 312 miles on a full tank but all of this while producing EPA-estimated tailpipe greenhouse gas emissions of 0 grams per mile.

The business end of the 2016 Mirai’s powertrain features a front-mounted electric motor producing 151 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, a 1.6-kWh battery is used to provide an extra boost of power when required. This means the 2016 Mirai can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 8.7 seconds.
