Toyota has been manufacturing the Sienna minivan since 1997 and, despite relatively few redesigns, this staple family vehicle has kept pace with the times, its popularity bolstered by Toyota's reputation for durability and longevity. For the 2018 model year, the Sienna received a few exterior styling updates, but by far the most important change was to make Toyota’s package of driver-assistance technologies standard equipment on all trim levels. Toyota also added more USB ports and upgraded the available second-row entertainment system.
However, most of the Sienna remained unchanged. Under the hood is Toyota's well-seasoned 3.5-liter V6 engine, delivering solid power to the van's eight-speed automatic transmission. Unique among its competitors, the 2018 Sienna can also be found with all-wheel drive.
Smooth ride: The Toyota Sienna is famous for its smooth ride. This van glides over standard roads, though it can be upset by large bumps. While no one would call the Sienna a sports car, it is prized for its smooth ride and predictable steering.
Engine power: The 3.5-liter V6 in the Sienna is good for 296 horsepower, which is plenty given the eight-speed transmission. The Sienna is known as the fastest and quickest minivan of its era.
All-wheel drive: The 2018 Sienna is the only minivan of that model year with available all-wheel drive. If you live in an area that sees freezing winter weather or heavy rains, the confidence and traction provided by all-wheel drive can be a big selling point.
Second-row seats: Minivans are renowned for features that make a parent's job easier. One of the Sienna's weak points is that the second-row seats are bulky and hard to remove, a drawback when some competitors have seats that easily fold into the floor.
RepairPal gave the Toyota Sienna an overall reliability rating of 4 out of 5 stars, which RepairPal describes as Above Average. This rating ranks Toyota Sienna 3rd out of 14 among Minivans.
