The 2019 Honda Ridgeline cuts a distinct path from the midsize truck crowd by leaning towards comfort and handling and away from traditional truck stuff. Its unibody construction means Honda’s truck is built more like an SUV and less like its traditional body-on-frame competitors, like the Toyota Tacoma and Chevrolet Colorado.
That doesn't mean the Ridgeline is a total slouch when it comes time to work. Its flat load floor can fit 4-by-8 sheets of plywood in the 5-foot bed. It's also filled with nifty storage features like an in-bed locking trunk and a stereo system designed with tailgate parties in mind.
Still, if you're looking for features like four-wheel drive or high ground clearance for rock crawling, the Ridgeline might not be the truck for you. Other trucks in the category can tow a bit more and offer more rugged looks.
Comfort: The Ridgeline is built like an SUV and we're happy to report it rides like one, too. The independent suspension and unibody construction make for a comfortable truck that feels more like a Honda Pilot. Throw in the comfortable seats, and the Ridgeline is a great road-trip companion.
Interior: This is a roomy pickup that’s easy to get in and out of, in part because of its low ground clearance compared to some of its competitors. There's a lower floor and noticeably more rear legroom than other trucks in the category.
Storage: Honda delivers on the storage front. You get fold-up rear seats inside the cab, providing a flat load floor, and a lockable storage trunk inside the bed. No midsize truck comes close, especially in terms of small-item storage in the cabin.
Truck stuff: Honda's midsize truck is a capable all-around vehicle, but there are competitors that can tow more and come equipped with more off-road capability. The Ridgeline will tackle most drivers’ needs, but other trucks will satisfy all their wants, too.
