Honda redesigned the Ridgeline for 2017, significantly improving on the first generation of the pickup, which was sold from 2006 to 2014. Honda stayed true to what made the Ridgeline work in the first place by focusing on comfort, utility, and versatility.
With that in mind, Honda retained the Ridgeline's SUV-like unibody construction and four-wheel independent suspension to deliver a higher level of ride comfort than you'll find in competitors like the Toyota Tacoma and Chevrolet Colorado. The Ridgeline also has a two-way tailgate and lockable in-bed trunk, making it one of the most storage-friendly midsize pickups available. That bed measures 40-inches wide and 5 feet long, impressive for a truck of its class.
But this is not a go-anywhere, do-anything pickup. The Ridgeline offers less towing capacity (5,000 pounds in all-wheel drive configuration when properly equipped) than its rivals and its relatively low ground clearance means this isn't the truck for you if rock crawling is your idea of a dream weekend. Various factors may impact towing capacity, including weight of passengers, cargo, and options/accessories.
Comfort: You won't find a more comfortable midsize pickup truck. The Ridgeline's unibody construction and independent suspension mean it’s more closely related to an SUV than to other trucks, and it definitely delivers a comfortable, car-like ride.
Interior: The Ridgeline's roomy interior is complemented by its quality materials and well-thought-out controls. It's also easy to get in and out of compared to the competition, thanks to its lower floor.
Storage: There are plenty of places to store your stuff, including a lockable trunk in the bed and a wide, flat floor inside the cab that is easily accessible when the rear seats are folded up. You’ll also find tons of spots to stash and organize small items in the cabin.
Truck stuff: This isn't the truck for you if you're looking for 4x4 or best-in-class towing. The Ridgeline is a capable all-around truck that will satisfy the needs of most drivers, but some may be left wanting while watching better loaded trucks drive by.
