The 2023 Land Rover Range Rover is an off-road capable, luxurious large SUV

The Range Rover name is synonymous with luxury and off-road capability, and this latest version, introduced in 2022, delivers on both these qualities. For the 2023 model year, the Range Rover’s styling remains unchanged, but a new plug-in hybrid version is added to the lineup. The almost 50 miles of electric range makes the Range Rover more efficient and is one of the longest EV ranges for any plug-in hybrid model. Land Rover also adds a new SV trim at the top end of the Range Rover lineup. Actual mileage will vary based on things like battery age, vehicle condition and history, driving and charging habits, accessory use, and driving conditions. Battery capacity may decrease with time and use. See fueleconomy.gov for more info. Land Rover offers the Range Rover in short- and long-wheelbase variants, the latter making space for the Range Rover to offer an optional third row for the first time. Multiple engine options range from the mild hybrid six-cylinder engine producing 395 horsepower to the 532-horsepower V8 offered in the higher-level trims. With a long list of standard and optional features and a stylish new exterior design, the Range Rover competes well against models like the Mercedes-Benz GLS, BMW X7, Cadillac Escalade, and Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

5 reasons to buy the 2023 Land Rover Range Rover

What We Like

Performance: With any of the powertrains, the big Range Rover feels quick with a smooth-shifting transmission and solid ride. The Range Rover’s soft suspension means handling leans more toward comfort than on-road performance. For those who decide to take their SUV off-road, the Range Rover is very capable. It offers two locking differentials, up to 11 inches of ground clearance, and five driver-selectable terrain-specific driving modes.

Interior: The cabin of the Range Rover is elegant and comfortable, with supple cushioning in all seating rows and available 24-way power-adjustable front seats. The Range Rover’s air suspension delivers a luxurious ride over all road surfaces, even when the big SUV rides on the optional 23-inch wheels. The suspension automatically lowers to make it easy to get in and out, and the SUV’s large windows provide a bright cabin as well as good visibility.

Utility: Cargo-carrying capacity in the Range Rover is a respectable 43.1 cubic feet behind the second row and more than 90 cubic feet behind the front row, but when the third row is in use, there’s a barely usable 8.7 cubic feet of space. If more gear is needed on the trip, the Range Rover can tow up to 8,200 pounds, when properly equipped.

What Needs Improvement

Technology: The 2023 Range Rover has the brand’s latest high-tech infotainment system, but like previous-generation versions, the buttons and touchscreen controls are confusing and difficult to operate. Many functions are buried in menus, making them difficult to find. Voice technology does not save the day, often not recognizing simple commands.
