The Lincoln Corsair is a compact luxury SUV that replaced the Lincoln MKC and sits below the larger Nautilus SUV. Based on the Ford Escape, the Corsair adds unique styling and premium materials. 2020 marked the first model year for the Corsair, and Lincoln made a number of improvements that elevated it over the MKC that preceded it. The Corsair competes with the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, and Volvo XC60.
Sound isolation in the Corsair's cabin is excellent, the controls are thoughtfully laid out, and there are two powerful engines to choose from. There are plenty of high-tech features available among all the trim levels, such as a 14-speaker Revel® audio system, ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, and a digital gauge cluster.
Both engines offer plenty of power for most people, but the Corsair's transmission has a tendency to shift harshly, which is particularly noticeable with the 2.0-liter engine. There is a stop-start system to help conserve fuel, but it can feel jerky at times when the engine needs to restart.
Quiet cabin: The Corsair's cabin is quieter on the road than most of its competitors, with both tire and wind noise kept to a minimum. You can hardly hear the engine unless you're really stepping hard on the gas pedal.
Driver-assistance tech: Models equipped with the Co-Pilot360™ Plus package are ones to keep an eye out for. It adds features such as adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, and lane centering. It also adds distance indication and alert, which monitors the car in front to show if you're getting a little too close.
User-friendly controls: The Corsair's control layout is thoughtfully executed. Controls for the climate functions are all located in the center stack, and there are a few physical controls for the radio above. The unorthodox gear selector buttons do have a slight learning curve, but they're an improvement over the vertically mounted buttons from the MKC. Finally, the SYNC® 3 operating system can be a little slow to react, but it's one of the most user-friendly systems on the market.
Rear passenger space: The back seat legroom is tight, even with the seats slid back to the rearmost position. The hard front seatbacks don't offer any give, which means that taller drivers may want to disable the easy entry feature to avoid pressing on the knees of the person seated immediately behind. Headroom in the rear isn't bad for shorter passengers, but taller people may find less room than in other compact crossovers.
