With a new name, the 2017 Porsche 718 — that’s “seven-eighteen” — Cayman is an impressive performance car that's refreshed for this model year. Look out for the well-crafted interior, a range of balanced engine options, and sharp handling that will put a smile on your face.
The 2017 Porsche 718 Cayman is a joy to drive. Even the base model is a lot of fun but there are optional performance features to look out for too. The active suspension management system adds adaptive dampers and lowers the ride height by 10mm for improved handling. If you need more, look for the Sport Chrono package, which adds launch control (on automatic models) and a Sport button that sharpens engine and transmission response for 20 seconds.
Even though it’s built for performance, you’ll love the luxury interior of the 2017 718 Cayman. The six-way adjustable sports seats with electronic back controls make finding the right driving position easy. At the same time, you’ll enjoy the automatic climate control so you can focus on the road ahead. Other standard features include Bluetooth® connectivity, a six-speaker sound system, and a rearview camera.
No matter what you require from your Porsche 718 Cayman, there’s an engine to suit you. The base model features a turbocharged 2.0L engine with 300 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. It comes standard with a manual transmission if you prefer to row your own gears but the optional PDK automatic dual-clutch transmission is very impressive. The 2017 Cayman S has a 350-hp 2.5L engine with 309 lb-ft of torque. It’ll do the sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 4.0 seconds.
Sports cars like this aren’t always known for their cargo space but the 2017 Porsche 718 Cayman is surprisingly roomy. Because of the mid-engine design, the Cayman not only has a 4.4 cu-ft trunk but there’s another 5.3 cu-ft of space up front under the hood. While you might not be able to carry large items, you’ve got enough space for a few weekend bags or groceries.
There’s no denying just how good the Porsche 718 Cayman looks. The shape of the air intakes signals you have a real performance car on your hands while the headlights give an added air of sleek sportiness. If you want head-turning colors, look for Racing Yellow, Lava Orange, or Miami Blue. If you’d rather make a statement with the interior, the red leather option just screams luxury sports car.
