The Ram 3500 is the most powerful and capable pickup truck that Ram offers. This truck is completely redesigned for the 2019 model year with updated styling inside and out, as well as a range of new features. Underneath the fresh face is an all-new chassis that uses high-strength steel and aluminum, making it both lighter and stronger, to improve drivability and increase the big truck's capability. As part of this redesign, the Ram 3500 gets two new engines. The standard 6.4-liter HEMI® V8 delivers 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, while the new high-output Cummins turbo diesel delivers 400 hp and a massive 1,000 lb-ft of torque. With the diesel engine under the hood, the Ram 3500 can tow up to 35,100 pounds, making it one of the strongest pickups in the heavy-duty truck segment. Various factors may impact towing capacity, including weight of passengers, cargo, and options/accessories. With the added capability and roomy, comfortable interior, the Ram 3500 holds its own against strong competitors that include the Ford F-350 Super Duty, Chevrolet Silverado 3500, and GMC Sierra 3500.
Driving: The Ram 3500 is a big, intimidating truck, so it is surprising how well it drives. Both engines provide plenty of power. Even when towing a trailer, the truck never feels bogged down. The steering is light for quick maneuvers, and the cabin remains quiet and comfortable when cruising on the highway.
Utility: With a range of cab configurations and two powerful engines, the Ram 3500 can be set up for a variety of tasks. In addition to its formidable towing and hauling capabilities, the Ram 3500 offers a spacious cabin with multiple cubby and storage spaces. Also available are a bed step, spray-in bedliner, and bed lighting.
Technology: As part of the redesign, the Ram 3500 is available with a 12-inch vertical display running the Uconnect® infotainment system. The system is intuitive and easy to learn, with excellent graphics. Ram also offers the latest advanced driver-assist features on the 3500, including automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, and adaptive cruise control.
Ride: The Ram 3500 is designed to haul big loads, but when it's empty, the ride can be bumpy and jarring, especially on rough roads. The diesel engine option can be loud, further contributing to the uncomfortable ride. However, Ram does offer an air suspension, which helps to smooth out the bumps.
