If you're looking for a capable and attractive three-row SUV, you might be looking for the 2019 Ford Expedition. Based on the Ford F-150, the Expedition is quick and powerful and features a good-looking interior that makes it one of the most compelling truck-based SUVs available. It's available in three trims, including XLT, Limited and Platinum. The Expedition received minor feature changes for 2019 following a full redesign for the 2018 model year.
Even in base trim, the Expedition is plenty capable. It can tow up to 9,300 pounds when properly equipped. Various factors may impact towing capacity, including weight of passengers, cargo, and options/accessories, and its turbocharged V6 engine accelerates sharply compared to the competition. The Expedition is more powerful than rivals like the Chevrolet Tahoe and its interior is sharper, too.
The downside is that, like the Tahoe, the Expedition is BIG, and cumbersome in tight parking lots. If you don't need access to its towing capacity, you might be better off with a three-row crossover like the Honda Pilot, which is easier to handle and gets better fuel economy
Utility: The Expedition has 20.9 cubic feet of storage space with all of the seats up. If you fold the third row down, you get 50.7 cubic feet of storage; folding all rear rows down nearly doubles storage capacity. And the Ford also offers plenty of interior storage compartments for smaller items.
Technology: An impressive infotainment system is the starting point for a strong user experience. Adding in standard Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ only sweetens the deal. The Expedition also includes satellite radio and a speaker system that's punchy and engaging.
Interior: The front seats are comfortable and the driver's seat is heavily adjustable. It's also easy to get in and out of the Expedition thanks to large running boards and well-placed grab handles. A roomy interior ensures ample head and legroom for all passengers.
Driving: The feel of the brake pedal leaves something to be desired and the large size of the Expedition means maneuvering through tight spaces can be a chore. Steering response is also a weak spot for the large SUV.
