2018 Ford F-350 delivers heavy-duty capability in a polished package

The 2018 Ford F-350 Super Duty delivers heavy-duty truck hauling with ease and refinement. Lightweight aluminum body panels and a roomy cabin rest on a high-strength steel frame. Power comes from either a 6.2-liter gasoline V8 or a turbocharged 6.7-liter diesel V8, with both engines sending power to the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic. Four-wheel drive is optional, as is a dual-rear-wheel axle for buyers needing additional payload and towing capacity. Available body styles are regular cab, super cab, and crew cab. Trim levels include XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and a new Limited. Available features like a 360-degree camera can help maneuver the F-350 in tight spaces, while a remote camera allows drivers to see "through" a trailer. Storable profiles to easily recall specific trailer dimensions, tire-pressure monitoring, and brake settings aid F-350 operators with multiple trailers. Adaptive cruise control, leather upholstery, and Ford's SYNC® 3 infotainment system are among the truck's available features, giving the 2018 Ford F-350 a sense of luxury normally reserved for premium sedans and SUVs.

5 reasons to buy the 2018 Ford F350

What We Like

Capability: The primary concern for heavy-duty truck buyers is capability, and the 2018 Ford F-350 Super Duty delivers, with up to 7,640 pounds of payload capacity and more than 20,000 pounds of towing capacity.

Roll in the wide range of available advanced technology to make hauling and towing easier, and the F-350 Super Duty is among the best trucks you can buy for serious truck chores.

Interior: The F-350's spacious interior provides plenty of room for adults in the front and—in Super Crew models—back seats. Upscale interiors on the King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited trims include high-quality leather, while the dual-zone automatic climate control system and heated/ventilated seats keep occupants comfortable over a wide range of weather conditions.

Efficiency: Good gas mileage isn't usually a heavy-duty truck's strength, but Ford has done its best to maximize MPG through the use of lightweight aluminum body panels and an available diesel engine. Of course heavy towing and hauling will still tax the fuel budget, but the F-350 with a diesel engine is as efficient as these H-D trucks get.

What Needs Improvement

Maneuverability: Heavy-duty truck buyers know what they're getting into when buying one of these large vehicles, but that doesn't change the reality of trying to maneuver these beasts on city streets or in tight confines. Thankfully, available features like the surround-view camera and Ford's Pro Trailer Backup Assist go a long way to mitigating these challenges.
