The Ford Mustang continues to deliver tons of style and performance

The 2022 Ford Mustang is four-wheeled proof that a muscle car with a modern twist is tough to beat for driving fun. The Mustang nameplate has been sold for nearly six decades, and the 2022 coupe and convertible versions enter the year with only minor changes. These consist primarily of cosmetic packages that add to the Mustang’s already near-limitless amount of options and extras.

Serving as the base powertrain is a turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 310 or 330 horsepower, depending on the chosen model. A 5.0-liter V8 remains an enticing option with output ranging from 450 to 470 hp. There is also the speedy Mustang GT500 with its 760-hp supercharged V8. A six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic can be had on Mustangs with the turbo-four or naturally aspirated V8.

Direct competitors include the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger. For muscle car looks and attitude, plus room for five, consider the Dodge Charger sedan.

5 reasons to buy the 2022 Ford Mustang

What We Like

  • Daily driving comfort: Believe it or not, the Ford Mustang is a handy and entertaining daily driver. The caveat is not to go overboard with performance extras that create a ride better suited to a racetrack than a typical daily commute. In city driving or for long highway stints, the Mustang is a willing dance partner.

  • Performance with the 5.0-liter V8: Simply hearing the exhaust note of the optional V8 makes it hard to resist ticking the option box to squeeze it under the Mustang’s prodigious hood.

  • Classic and retro cabin: Ford did a commendable job giving the Mustang an interior that pays homage to classic models but has all the features you want in a modern vehicle. A user-friendly touchscreen, smartphone connectivity, and USB ports all make this a proper old-meets-new pony car.

What Needs Improvement

  • Impractical rear seating: In a pinch, the back seat of the Mustang is OK for average-sized adults if the journey is short. But taller folks will not be happy back there for any length of time.
